Program Summary

The Community College Initiative Program will support international undergraduate students at accredited U.S. community colleges. It will provide quality educational programs, professional development, employment skills and a first-hand understanding of American society to international students. Programs are being offered in tourism and hospitality (12 month certificate), business administration (Two year degree) and heating and air-conditioning (Two year degree). People who are employed in the relevant field are strongly encouraged to apply. The award covers funding for one or two years of academic study and may result in either a certificate or an Associate Degree. Students are expected to return home following the completion of their U.S program.



Grant Benefits

Program funding will cover the following costs: round-trip travel, books allowance, tuition, housing and a health benefit plan.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Currently employed in the field of tourism and hospitality, business management and administration or heating and air-conditioning;
  • A Bachelors Degree (at least two years);
  • Able to demonstrate an advanced level of English language proficiency;
  • Potential to have a positive impact on Pakistan’s future development;
  • Individuals with a Masters or other advanced degrees are ineligible;
  • Demonstrated leadership.

Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.


Application Procedure

  • Interested candidates should submit an application including a short personal statement of one page typed indicating why he or she is interested in participating in the program and what they hope to gain from the experience.
  • The following must be submitted with your application: Three letters of reference (including one from current employer) and recent academic transcripts and degrees.
  • Two sets of application materials (original and one copy) must be submitted.
  • Government employees must also submit a leave certificate.

Please note: 

No dependents are allowed for any part of this program.

For all USEFP programs, persons with a dual U.S./Pakistan nationality or who have a parent, spouse, fiancé, or child over 18 years of age who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident are ineligible. Employees of the Fulbright organization or the U.S. Department of State are ineligible.
